Excavator Prices 2026: What Each Size Costs and Where the Money Goes

7 min readMini Excavator

Most people who want to buy an excavator ask the same first question: “How much is a mini excavator?” But there is no single answer, because the machine we call an “excavator” comes in very different classes from 1.2 to 3.5 tonnes, and the price difference between them can be more than double.

In this article we explain what 2026 mini excavator prices are made up of, which size suits which job, and the choices that inflate the price unnecessarily.

2026 excavator prices by size

As of 2026, new mini excavator prices at EKSFORK start from the following figures (excluding VAT):

Model Class Engine Price
Rippa R10 1.2 t Koop 192F, 10 HP diesel 299.000 ₺
Rippa R327 1.7 t Kubota D722, 21 HP diesel 549.000 ₺ 479.000 ₺ (campaign)
Rippa R350 3.5 t — Call for price

The difference is no coincidence. Going from 1.2 to 3.5 tonnes, it isn’t only the machine that gets heavier; engine power, hydraulic capacity, digging depth and cab equipment grow along with it. Most of the price comes from these items. (Because the R350’s price depends on its equipment, we share the exact figure with a quote.)

Machines listed as small excavators, mini diggers or tracked mini excavators belong to the same class; the table above also applies to small excavator prices in 2026.

5 factors that determine the price of a mini excavator

1. Size and digging capacity

As size increases, the machine digs deeper, lifts heavier loads and can work in harder ground. The R10’s maximum digging depth is 1,650 mm — more than enough for garden, greenhouse and narrow-access work. But if you will be digging foundations or opening infrastructure lines, you need to move up to the class above 3 tonnes.

The most common mistake here: thinking “just in case, I’ll get the bigger one”. Buying an excavator one class bigger than you need permanently increases both the purchase price and the fuel consumption. And because it can’t get into narrow garden paths, it may not even be useful for your main job.

2. Engine make

A well-known engine such as Kubota pushes up the price of a machine of the same size. Is the difference worth paying? Generally yes, for three reasons:

  • Spare part availability — filters, injectors and gaskets for a well-known engine are available everywhere
  • Ease of service — any diesel mechanic is more comfortable working on a familiar engine
  • Resale value — buyers look at the engine make when you sell

That is why the R327’s Kubota D722 engine is preferred: 21 HP, 3-cylinder, water-cooled.

3. Cab and comfort equipment

The difference between a machine with a canopy (an open protective roof) and one with an air-conditioned enclosed cab reaches serious figures even at the same size. If you will be working on site most of the year, a cab is not a comfort but an investment in productivity; if you will use the machine a few days a month, a canopy is enough.

4. Hydraulic and control equipment

Pilot controls, a hydraulic thumb, an adjustable dozer blade, a quick coupler and an auxiliary hydraulic line — all of these raise the initial price somewhat.

But do this calculation: an excavator with a quick coupler fits a breaker in 2 minutes. On a machine without one, the same job takes half an hour and often needs a second person. If you change attachments twice a day, this equipment pays for itself in a few months.

5. Delivery, exchange rate and payment method

Three variables on top of the list price:

  • Delivery distance — delivery from İstanbul to Kars is not the same as delivery within İstanbul
  • Exchange rate — for imported machines and parts, the exchange rate directly affects the price
  • Payment method — there is a difference between paying cash and buying in instalments

Because these three are not fixed, we give you the exact figure in a personalised quote rather than from a list.

Which size is right for your job?

1.2–1.7 tonnes (R10, R327) Garden landscaping, work inside greenhouses, courtyards with narrow access, small-scale channel digging, landscaping. Can be moved on a trailer, low fuel consumption.

3–3.5 tonnes (R350) Infrastructure lines, foundation digging, deep channels, heavy earthmoving. More powerful hydraulics, deeper digging, higher fuel consumption.

The point where people get stuck is usually this: “80% of my work is gardens, but foundation digging comes up now and then.” In that case the 1.7-tonne class is often the right middle ground — the R327 gets into narrow spaces and digs in a more balanced way thanks to its Kubota engine and telescopic tracks; deep foundations need the R350.

Would a tractor be cheaper than an excavator?

For some jobs, yes. If your land is not narrow but sloping, muddy and wide, and your main work is not digging but hoeing, ploughing and hauling, a tracked tractor may be the more economical solution. The 35 HP QD35 starts from 249.000 ₺ and the version with excavator arm is 349.000 ₺ — so you can get a machine that does both tractor and excavator work for less than the price of a single excavator.

Affordable excavator = poor-quality excavator?

No — but you need to ask where the low price comes from. A price can be low in two ways:

The healthy way: A short supply chain, low operating costs, volume purchasing, avoiding unnecessary equipment. The machine is the same; there are simply fewer cost items in between.

The unhealthy way: Sales without warranty, a supplier without spare part stock, a seller without a service network. Here the initial price looks low, but at the first breakdown the machine stands still for weeks and the total cost shoots up.

Always ask before you buy: how long is the warranty, are spare parts in stock, how many days will it take the service team to reach me? At EKSFORK machines come with a 2-year / 2,000-hour warranty, and spare parts stock and our service network in 81 provinces support you after the sale too.

Summary

  • Most of the price comes from the trio of size, engine and cab
  • Buying a bigger machine than you need means a permanent cost
  • Hydraulic equipment (quick coupler, auxiliary line) generally pays for itself
  • The exact figure depends on delivery, exchange rate and payment method
  • “Affordable” is something to ask about, not something to avoid — confirm the warranty and service

Frequently asked questions

How much is the most affordable mini excavator?
At EKSFORK the most affordable model is the 1.2-tonne Rippa R10, starting from 299.000 ₺ (excluding VAT). Be careful with offers below that: they are usually machines without warranty, service or spare part support, and the difference disappears at the first breakdown.
What does the price of a mini excavator depend on?
Mostly on size, engine make and cab equipment. Most of the difference between a 1.2-tonne machine with a canopy and a 3.5-tonne machine with an air-conditioned cab comes from these three items. Equipment such as pilot controls, a hydraulic thumb and a quick coupler raises the initial price but pays for itself because it speeds up work on site.
Are VAT and delivery included in the price?
The figures on the site exclude VAT. Delivery depends on distance; when we quote, we state in writing whether delivery is included — no surprise items at delivery.
Can I buy a mini excavator in instalments?
Yes. We have cash, instalment and corporate payment options. Call us to discuss which option suits you; under our single-price policy there is no haggling, but we are flexible on the payment plan.
How much does a mini excavator cost?
It depends on the class: in 2026 the 1.2-tonne R10 is 299.000 ₺, the 1.7-tonne class R327 is 479.000 ₺ on campaign (list price 549.000 ₺), and the 3.5-tonne R350 with cab is priced by quote according to its equipment. Prices exclude VAT.
